Japanese Lunch Time

Generally, we have only one hour for lunch time.
If you want to eat out, you have to rush with a bag when the lunch time comes.

Lunch time menu is different from dinner time one.


There are only set menus,or you can't eat 'a la carte'.
What is included in set menu?

Salad
Main dish
Non-alcohol Drink
(Sweets)

It is a little different from course menu,isn't it?
Even if you don't want to eat salad, you can't remove it.
Strangely, most of restraunts serve in this way...

Some restraunt has another interesting dish at lunch time.
We call it 'plate lunch'





It is a plate which involved all, for example soup,sald,rice and main dish.


Why these way have been usual?
I think it is because of very short lunch time.
If you want to eat out of school or office, you have to go,eat and back in only one hour.
So restraunts have to serve dishes as soon as possible for us.
They can save time with set menu and serve them immediately.
They don't have to stock a lot of food for verious dishes.
They only have to prepare for a few set menu.
In adittion, they can get more costmers.

If you order plate lunch, you don't have to wait for next plate!
These way is good for us and restraunts.
But... do you want to take a lunch so fast like this...?
There are no time to enjoy the taste.
JUST EAT.

Is cafe a library?

When you enter to a cafe, you will see some people studying around there.
It seems to be in the library.



Some people bring a few dictionaries and study languages, others bring their computer and write reports.
I used to study at cafe and I still study there 3days a week.
Some students study at noisy MacDonald though I've never do like that.




For a cafe, sometime they are trobule because they stay there for a long time
with only one cup of coffe or tea.
The uncomfortable chair, which is prepared for having a steady flow of customers ,doesn't work for students like them...
There is an anouncement which says " please don't study here for a long time when we have a lot of customers."
(But everyone againsts the rule...)
I don't know why they don't care about people who chat more than 2hours...



Why don't students stydy in the library of thier school or of thier town?

Japanese public junior high school and high school don't have good facilities in the library.
In addiction, some city library have studying room but almost of all don't have and we can't study there.
Then, we try to study at home but there are troublesome mother, young sisters and brothers and a temptation of TV and games.
So, our last choice is CAFE.
